Frequently asked questions.

What is a home assessment?

A virtual home safety assessment is a video-based session led by an occupational therapist who helps identify potential fall/safety hazards and accessibility barriers in your home. Together, we walk through your living spaces to discuss simple, practical ways to make your home safer and more supportive of your daily routines.

Who can benefit from a home assessment?

Anyone who wants to stay independent and safe at home can benefit — especially older adults, individuals recovering from injury or surgery, and families supporting loved ones who wish to age in place.

How is the virtual assessment done?

All sessions are completed online through a secure video call via Google Meet. You can use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop to guide us through your home. If preferred, a family member or caregiver can assist by holding the device during the walk-through.

What areas of the home are reviewed?

We review all key living areas — such as entryways, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, hallways, laundry rooms, and living spaces — to ensure safety, accessibility, and comfort throughout the home.

What do I need to prepare before the assessment?

Make sure your device is charged, the internet connection is stable, and your home has good lighting. Having a caregiver or family member available to help move the camera can also make the process easier.

How long does the assessment take?

Depending on the package you select, assessments typically last between 30 and 60 minutes. More comprehensive sessions with detailed reports or follow-ups may take slightly longer.

What will I receive after the assessment?

You’ll receive a clear, written summary outlining personalized recommendations (room by room), fall prevention strategies, and home modification suggestions with links to equipment recommendations. Higher-tier packages also include a detailed report and optional follow-up session to review changes and progress.

Will you recommend specific equipment or home modifications?

Yes! We provide tailored suggestions such as grab bars, non-slip rugs, lighting improvements, or layout changes. We don’t sell products directly — our recommendations are based solely on what’s best for your safety and comfort.

Do you provide resources for local installation or home improvement help?

We can help connect you with trusted local contractors or community resources when available, ensuring you have the right support to make recommended changes.

Do you accept insurance or Medicare?

At this time, virtual home assessments are not covered by insurance or Medicare. However, many clients use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to cover the cost.

How can I pay for my session?

Payments can be made easily online through a secure payment link using credit, debit, or HSA/FSA cards.
